Kielder Castle
Extreme Ghost Hunters stay while others run at Kielder Castle...
Built in 1775 as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Northumberland, more recent visitors and occupiers of the castle tell tales of objects being moved, apparitions, footsteps and unexplained voices - well worth a visit for any budding ghosthunter!
So being able to spend the whole night at the castle located in an area rich with tales of Border Rievers and spine tingling ghostly encounters was a must!
The castle, reputedly haunted by the Grey Lady and a servent girl named Emma played host to a physic investigator from Germany who spent little more than an hour before fleeing from the castle, a time we intended to beat!
Armed with night vision cameras, movement sensors and thermometers, we bedded down for the night - a pretty quite and uneventful night at first...
Having arrived early evening, being a cold, windy dark November night, things had not stirred nor went bump until almost midnight, whereby we'd all but given up, then the sound of footsteps could be heard running up and down the main stairs - and no one was there!
Attempting to identify the source, the footsteps then moved location and started up and down the attic stairs which was really spooky and could not be explained away, though not disturbing enough to run!
Later on through the night motion detectors would go off, and various experiments including ouija board questioning resulted in almost 6hrs of continuous coming and goings of a handful of spirits, claiming to be past dukes through to a gamekeeper who says he was murdered by associates and the noted Emma!
Coupled with murmering voices and a shadowy figure, this was a surreal encounter by anyone's standards and something everyone should experience, arriving as a sceptic and leaving with an open mind it raises a lot of questions about life after death.
Since this venture, Kielder Castle has became a favourite and regular ghost hunting venue, though we've never quite encountered a similar night where everything seemed to be happening!
